Celebrating a passion for Chocolate
It’s a great achievement for a small business to be celebrating their 10th birthday. Local small business Lucy Armstrong Chocolates in East Wittering, is also celebrating 10 years with a passion for chocolate.
About Lucy
Lucy has always had a passion for cooking and as a child always enjoyed helping her Mum in the kitchen. This led her on her career path to Tante Marie School of Cookery in Woking, where she received a Cordon Bleu Cookery Diploma.
She has worked in various restaurants, specialising in desserts – especially chocolate desserts, which she became recognised for her skill. “While working for the National Trust, I had a customer once say that they had driven over 40 miles to buy some of my famous gluten-free chocolate brownies” said Lucy.
Growing a passion for chocolate
With a passion for chocolate, Lucy decided to travel around the world to learn about the different types of chocolates and flavours from different countries. “My most memorable experiences include the delicious Passion Fruit Chocolate in Australia and visiting the Chocolate Buffet at The Sukhothai Hotel in Bangkok”.
With this new knowledge of chocolate from around the world, Lucy Armstrong Chocolates was launched in 2010 and has gone from strength to strength.
More recently in 2019 Lucy continued her travels overseas, visiting Columbia to explore sustainable cocoa and fine chocolates. “Just seeing how much the cocoa industry benefits the communities there. It was an incredible experience that has changed the way I think about the Chocolate I want to use and the kind of Chocolatier I want to be”.
Lucy has also enjoyed attending the BBC Good Food Show in London, as well as selling her gourmet chocolates at fairs across the South East of England. “I take pride in producing special requests for my customers, including printing images on the chocolates. More recently I have enjoyed making a giant Easter Egg to contain an engagement ring. Which went very well with the client’s proposal, to which his girlfriend said YES!”
It’s all about personal service
The personal service that Lucy offers, along with the taste and quality of her chocolates has enabled Lucy to receive recognition from the best in the industry. Being awarded ‘Great Taste Awards’ for her Milk Chocolate Caramels, Chocolate Bombes, Dark Chocolate Salted Caramels, Vanilla Fudge and her Lemon Meringue Marshmallows.
